You can add a built-in jet system that pushes a current of water toward you, giving you something to swim against in place. It’s how a 20-foot pool can still work as exercise — you can swim in place for as long as you want without ever turning around.
Steps at one end make getting in and out easy for kids and adults alike, and they double as a seating shelf for anyone who wants to sit with their feet in the water. On a smaller pool like this, the steps take up a proportionally larger share of the footprint, so they’re designed to stay useful even when the pool is full.
The “keyhole” part of the shape is a rounded nook that can be fitted with spa jets for a built-in hot-tub-style seating area. Even without jets it works as a secluded seating corner — a quieter place to sit while kids play in the main part of the pool.
A bench at the deeper end gives adults a place to sit in water that’s just over 5 feet deep. On a compact pool this is valuable because it lets you have a “sit and relax” zone without sacrificing the main swim area.
The floor slopes gradually from 4′ 2″ to 5′ 1″ with no sudden drop-off. That shallower-to-slightly-deeper transition is forgiving for kids and means the entire pool is usable for standing and casual play for most adults.
